[English]

From the dissolution of carbonate rocks. The high concentration of bicarbonate and calcium, along with the alkaline pH (8.7), indicates the spring’s therapeutic potential for managing kidney stones (especially uric acid stones) through urine alkalinization. Comparison with the secondary The Ahmad Kar mineral spring in Zarineh City, Kurdistan Province, despite local beliefs in its therapeutic properties, particularly for kidney stone dissolution (lithotripsy), has not yet been scientifically investigated. This study was conducted to examine the hydrochemical characteristics and evaluate the wellness tourism potential of the spring using a mixed (quantitative and qualitative) method. Sampling was performed from the main and secondary springs during the dry and wet seasons of 2024 (1403 Persian calendar), and physicochemical parameters (temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, anions, and cations) were measured. In the qualitative part, semi structured interviews were conducted with the local community. The results showed that the water type of both springs is calcium bicarbonate (Ca HCO₃), resulting spring revealed a dilution phenomenon of 50 65% and increased turbidity, emphasizing the importance of protecting the main source. Interviews also confirmed local knowledge about the stone dissolving property and the differentiation of stone types. It is concluded that the Ahmad Kar spring has significant potential for the development of health tourism; however, scientific planning, water resource management, and clear evidence based explanation of its therapeutic properties are essential.
