Dams are special structures, which require special attention in analysis and design due to high construction costs and having huge energy resources. If a dam fails due to the occurrence of natural and human events, such as an earthquake, irreparable human, financial and environmental damages will be caused, and on the other hand, its energy resources will be out of reach. Therefore, it is logical to spend more money in the study and design stage of these important structures, to prevent further damage caused by their failure. In this research, the behavior of sediment on the response of weighted concrete dams has been investigated. The variable parameter is the deposit thickness of the tank bottom. Concrete damage plasticity model has been used to model the dam. Due to the complexity of the dam-reservoir-pillar-sediment system, the finite element method has been used for modeling and analysis because of its appropriate ability to apply different boundary conditions. The desired model has been simulated and compared for four cases without sediment and sediment with a thickness of 10 and 15 meters. The results of these analyzes show the high impact of reservoir bottom sediment on the response of the dam structure under earthquake load. By examining the results of energy lost due to damage and damage caused by applying seismic load, sediments on the bottom of the tank, like an energy absorber, reduce the response of the dam structure, but then with the increase in height, the sediments increase the seismic response. They are blocked.
