Abstract

Managing the use of water resources, especially groundwater resources, is important and requires accurate knowledge of the characteristics of the aquifer, the stresses on it, and finally the groundwater balance. Simulation-optimization models are a great help to planning managers to determine the amount of long-term and sustainable exploitation of the aquifer. For this purpose, the water level changes of the Kashan plain aquifer in the statistical period of 1387-1397 were simulated by the GMS model for 125 stress periods. The model was calibrated in two permanent and non-permanent modes for a period of 94 months (1387-1395) and validated for a period of 31 months (1395-1397).The result was that the groundwater dropped by 4.4 meters during the 10-year study period. Due to the location plain in the dry climatic belt and the lack of effective rainfall to properly feed the aquifer, in this study, the focus was on the management of exploitation from the aquifer. For this purpose, the use of two-point hedging policy was able to prevent the sharp and critical drop of groundwater and reduce the drop from 0.44 to 0.31 meters per year, saving 255 million cubic meters of water per year. be in the aquifer. Although achieving this result reduces reliability and increases the lack of supply of demands, it prevents the occurrence of droughts with great severity and reduces irreparable damages.
